Claiborne County

Cocke County
This area is located on the state’s eastern border with North Carolina. The county includes parts of The Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the Cherokee National Forest. As early as 1783, European settlers from the Carolinas and Virginia lived on land near the fork of the Big Pigeon and French Broad rivers. Grainger County
A lake side county is located in approximately 18 miles from downtown Knoxville and borders northeast side of Knox County. The central business districts of Morristown, Jefferson City, Tazewell, and Rogersville area within a short drive from Grainger County. The county is bordered on the east by Cherokee Lake which covers 28,750 acres of water surface. The shoreline at Cherokee Dam offers recreational facilities.

Hamblen County
This thriving community is situated in the Lakeway Region, surrounded by mountains and lakes, Morristown is he county seat of Hamblen County incorporated in 1903. Jefferson County

Loudon County
This area is an emerging economic force in the East Tennessee Region. Loudon County is predicted to have a 30% increase in population between 2000-2010. Most of this population growth will be centered in the Knoxville-Lenoir City corridor. Each year, Loudon County is also experiencing a significant amount of new commercial and industrial development. McMinn County
Best known for its rivers-the Ocoee, Hiwassee, Tellico, and Little Tennessee. Monroe County
This was once called the “Cherokee Indian Territory”, where the National Capital of the Indian Nation was located. The area known as “Chota” was located near the mouth of the Tellico River on the Little Tennessee River near Fort Loudon. The Indian nation covered 40,000 square miles and had a population of 25,000. Numerous lake front communities are located within the county.

Rhea County
These communities lies north of Chattanooga along the western shoreline of Watts Bar Lake. The Cherokee Indian Trail of Tears passed through the area in the 1830s. Often referred to as the trial of the century, the Scopes Monkey Trial took place in Rhea County in 1925. A statue of William Jennings Bryan was erected on the grounds of the courthouse.

Roane County
This county is home to two extensive facilities that housed part of the massive World War II effort known as the Manhattan Project, responsible for building the world’s first atomic bomb. The graphite reactor on the Oak Ridge Reservation is the world’s oldest continuously operated nuclear reactor. Both Melton Hill Lake and Watts Bar Lake pass through portions of Roane County. The recent Watts Bar Steam Plant “fly ash disaster” was the focus of the nation’s environmentalists.

Sevier County
A huge county that boasts 515,000 scenic acres, 130 tree varieties and 16 peaks all over 6,000 feet, which help their greatest revenue source, tourism. The county includes a portion of Douglas Lake, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Gatlinburg, Dollywood, and The Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

Union County
Lying North of Knoxville, it was the original home of the “Grand Ole Opry” and Roy Acuff. A museum in his memory is located on Highway 33 in Maynardville. Big Ridge State Park on Norris Lake includes 3,600 heavily wooded acres of recreational land. The deep waters of Norris Lake produce excellent catches of rockfish, walleye, and smallmouth bass. Union County has lots to offer.
